Mary Niederfrank born, Nieman, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, November 2, 1847. She was reared in the Lutheran Church. She removed with her parents to Gutenberg, Clayton County, Iowa, where she grew to young womanhood. In the autumn of 1865 she was married to C.H. Niederfrank. In the spring of 1866 they removed to Delaware County, Iowa, and settled on a farm near Earlville. In the fall of 1899 they moved to a farm near Greeley where they resided until 1901 when they retired from active life and settled in Strawberry Point, Iowa, where they have since resided. She was a true helpmate in every respect, bearing the joys and sorrows; prosperity and adversity with her husband in their married life. To her children she was a true and devoted mother.
She was taken with pneumonia January 21 and on January 25th her spirit took its flight. She leaves to mourn, her husband, C.H. Niederfrank, two brother's and a sister, Henry and William C. Nieman of Earlville, and Mrs. Eliza Storck of Van Meter, Iowa, besides nine children, one, Mrs. Louise Schenke having preceded her to the better world; Mrs. F.W. Merton of Garner, a stepdaughter; Louis, C. of Earlville, Mrs. E.J. Heyer of New Hampton, Edward of Greeley, Emma, Hannah, Mrs. F.C. Lundt, Ida and Mamie of Strawberry Point also a number of grandchildren and other relatives.
The funeral was held Tuesday from the Lutheran Church at
Strawberry Point, her Pastor, Rev. G.A. Graff conducting the services. Roy Remboldt of Arlington
gave an address in the English language. A large number of relative and friends
participated. The body was laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery at Strawberry Point.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Brandhorst of Manning attended the funeral, after which they visited several days with relatives in that vicinity which is Mr. Brandhorst's old home, he having spent his boyhood days there. Mr. Brandhorst and Mr. Niederfank are half-brothers.
