Mrs. Mary Miller was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, on February 22, 1859, and passed away at her home on North Pine Street, Denison, Iowa, August 6, 1997, at the age of 78 years, 5 months, and 14 days.
Mrs. Miller was educated in the common schools of Germany and emigrated with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. Kuhl to America in 1873 locating first at Rock Island, Illinois, later moving to Davenport and then coming to Crawford County in 1875 locating on a farm in Iowa Township.
Mrs. Miller was married to John W. Miller at Denison, Iowa, in February 1878, and located on a farm in Hayes Township south of Westside; later they moved to Iowa Township.
In 1890, they moved to Manning, Iowa, where Mr. Miller engaged in the livestock business. In 1917, they moved to Denison where Mr. Miller passed away April 21, 1926.
Mrs. Miller leaves three sons, J.W. Miller, Jr., and J.J. Miller of Denison, and E.J. Miller of Ida Grove, also six grandchildren and one great grandchild; three sisters, Mrs. Caroline Kuhl, Mrs. Emily Molter, and Mrs. Louise Kruse, all of Manning, and one brother, J. Julius Kuhl of Carroll, Iowa.
Mrs. Miller was one of the sturdy pioneers who helped build up our county, state and nation. She was ever kind, sympathetic and helpful, and leaves many friends.
Funeral services were held from the Luft Funeral Home on East Broadway Street Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
Funeral services were conducted by Judge George A. Megney with Miss Myrtle B. Custer rendering two vocal selections with Mrs. Stoney playing the accompaniment, all from the Second Church of Christ Scientist, Omaha, Nebraska.
Interment was in the Manning Cemetery.
Many friends and relatives were an attendance from Manning, Carroll, Ida Grove, Westside, Fort Dodge, and Audubon.
Pallbearers were Dr. J.C. Robinson, Charles E. Jacobsen, W.E. Kahler, Otto Bliesman, Emil Mundt, and Malcom Heiden.
