Mary Meiners

Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Meiners of Templeton, Iowa will be held Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton. Reverend Dale Reiff is Celebrant. Lector is Ken Behrens, Gift Bearers are Rex & Virginia Wilson, Mass Servers are Matthew Meiners and Makinze Meiners, Eucharistic Ministers are Audrey Siepker, Mary Schoeppner, and Kathy Rupiper. Music will be provided by the Sacred Heart Men's Choir with Leonette Irlbeck as accompanist, and Richard Carey as vocalist. Casketbearers are Denny Kasperbauer, John Snyder, Tom Schmitz, John Schachtner, John Meiners, Jr., and Monte Hewitt. Honorary Casketbearers are Tracey Kahl, Nancy Danner, Anissa Irlmeier, Linda Vinke, Kathy Dales, Amy Dawson, Shelly Barsby, and Michelle Andersen Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Templeton.

A visitation, Rosary led by Margaret Murray, and Prayer Service was held on Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning.

Mary Ellen, daughter of Robert and Lennice (Hewitt) Bauer, was born on May 6, 1951, at Jefferson, Iowa. She graduated from Lohrville High School in Lohrville, Iowa in 1969. Mary attended the University of Northern Iowa and Des Moines Area Community College earning her L.P.N. in 1971 and her R.N. in 1988. Mary was employed as a nurse for 24 years at Manning Regional Healthcare Center. She served on the Carroll County Board of Health, and as Co-Chairperson for the Relay for Life team for Manning Hospital.

On May 5, 1973, Mary was united in marriage with Duane Meiners at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church in Churdan, Iowa. Two children were born into this union and they lived most of their married life near Templeton. Mary loved spending time with her grandson, Tyson, watching green things grow, and vacationing in the Caribbean with friends.

After a courageous seven year battle with cancer, Mary died on May 14, 2007, at Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, Iowa, at the age of 56 years, and 8 days. She will always be remembered for her kindness to others, and her positive attitude and courage in the face of her illness.

Mary was preceded in death by her grandparents: Elmond and Mary Bauer of Churdan; and Fern and Glenn Hewitt of Farnhamville.

She is survived by her husband Duane Meiners of Templeton; two sons: Robert Meiners of Templeton and Barry Meiners and wife Ann of Ankeny; parents Robert and Lennice Bauer of Churdan; grandson Tyson Meiners of Ankeny; sister Sandra and husband Fred King of Lincoln, Nebraska; two brothers: Edward Bauer and wife, Fran, of Massapequa, New York; and Donald Bauer and wife Jackie, of Ogden; father and mother-in-law, John G. and Margaret Meiners of Templeton; sister-in-law Anita Meiners, of Des Moines, four brothers-in-law: Eugene Meiners and wife Diane of Templeton; Jim Meiners and wife Delores of Glidden; Jerry Meiners of Templeton; and John Meiners, Jr. and wife Schellie of Templeton; 6 nieces, 8 nephews, 3 grandnieces, 5 grandnephews and many cousins, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
