Marvin Marion Petersen, the son of Jacob and Minnie (Bosche) Petersen, was born on October 21, 1922, in Jefferson Township, rural Irwin, Iowa. He was a life-long Irwin area resident, graduating from Irwin High School in 1940. On April 20, 1950, Marvin married Marian Ohrt in Manning, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Irwin area for many years until their retirement in 1977, when they moved to Irwin from their farm located east of Irwin.
Marvin enjoyed music, and played the harmonica, accordion, and piano. As a youth, he had played in a band.
Marvin M. Petersen died on Wednesday, May 14, 1997, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, at the age of 74 years, 6 months, and 23 days.
Preceding Marvin in death were his parents; one brother, Ernest; and four sisters, Minnie, Martha, Alice, and one sister in infancy. Survivors include his wife, Marian Petersen of Irwin; one daughter, Connie Petersen of Carroll; one brother, Normal Petersen of Des Moines, Iowa; a special family friend, Carol North of Carroll; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
