Martin Sievers was born June 14, 1943, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Martin C. and Dorothy (Kruse) Sievers. He was a 1960 graduate of Storm Lake High School and he received a B.S. from Buena Vista College in 1964. On July 10, 1965, Martin was united in marriage to Linda Maier in Norwalk, Wisconsin.
Martin taught at Remson-Union High School before teaching in Lohrville, Iowa; Manning, Iowa (1970 through first semester of 1973); and Lake City, Iowa. In the summers of 1969 - 1971, he continued his education at Texas Southern University where he earned a Master of Science degree. Martin worked for Iowa Lakes Community College from 1976 until his retirement in 1999 as a health coordinator in the continuing education department.
Martin was a member of the United Methodist Church, and he served several terms on the Graettinger Community School Board. He was also past president of CAASA, and he served 20 years on the board. Martin was involved with the beginning of the Graettinger Ambulance Service, and he was an EMT volunteer for several years. He enjoyed model railroading, reading, cutting wood, feeding the birds and squirrels in his yard, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.
On February 20, 2012, Martin passed away at the Muse-Norris Hospice House in Mason City, Iowa.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda of Graettinger; three daughters: Melanie Sievers-Rients (Jeff) of Center Point, Iowa, Michele Scott of Graettinger, and Kristina (Scott) Vollbeer of Eldridge, Iowa; two sisters: Virginia Freeney of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Diane Meeker (Clayton) of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and six grandchildren: Dalton Park, Alicia Scott, Elizabeth Rients, Tommy Scott, Christopher Rients, Andrew Vollbeer and one grandchild on the way.
Martin was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Frank Freeney.
