MRS. NICHOLAS SCHRUM

Funeral services for Mrs. Nicholas (Martha Mae) Schrum, 77, of Norfolk, Nebraska, formerly of Manning, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 15, 1973, at the Ohde Funeral Home here, with interment in the Manning Cemetery.

The Rev. Carl Sinning of Guthrie Center officiated. Mrs. Bonita Hagedorn, organist, accompanied the vocalists, Gary Van Cleave and. Jim Gunnerson. Pallbearers were Norm Petersen, Jim Gunnerson, Jim Donnelly, Gary Donnelly and Stuart Baker.

Mrs. Schrum was the former Martha Mae Longstreth. She was born May 10, 1896, in Butler County, Nebraska, and moved with her parents to Long Pine, Nebraska, where her father built a sod house and homesteaded. Later they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where he was a police officer for many years. She attended the University of Nebraska College of agriculture and later came to Manning, living with the Dr. Orren W. Wyatt family.

She married Nicholas C. Schrum in 1918, at her parents' home in Lincoln, and they spent most of their married life on farms near Manning, with the exception of a few years in Murdock and Lincoln, Nebraska. Mr. Schrum was killed August 6, 1956, when a windstorm struck Manning. For the last 3 1/2 years Mrs. Schrum has lived at Norfolk with a daughter, Mrs. L.F. Knudsen.

Mrs. Schrum was a member of Salona Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star; the American Legion Auxiliary and Past Presidents Club; and of the Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir for many years.

Surviving are seven children: Mrs. Knudsen (Lois) and Mrs. Sally Donnelly of Norfolk; Mrs. L.D. (Lilah) Kimes of Sacramento, Calif.; MM. Max (Verna Louise) Gunnerson of Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Robert (Leona) Larsen of Des Moines; James and Richard of Fairfield; also 23 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Irene Thornton of Omaha, and a brother, Ivan Longstreth of Santa Barbara, California.
