Martha Stuedeman was born at Lyons, Iowa October 28, 1885. She grew to womanhood in Clinton County and later moved with her family to Crawford County.
On February 16, 1910, she was united in marriage to Mr. John Opperman. The couple lived on the home place for six years, and then moved to Manning in 1916.
Mrs. Opperman had been ill for about 4 years. She passed away at 7:30pm on January 21, 1938, at the age of 52 years, 2 months, and 23 days.
Her father preceded her in death in 1931. Besides her husband, she leaves to mourn her passing, her mother, living in California, two brothers, Emil Stuedeman of Charlotte, Iowa, and Dick Stuedeman of Flandreau, South Dakota, and two sisters, Mrs. Elsie McIntire and Mrs. Earl Mulling, both of California.
Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon from the Ohde Funeral Home with the Rev. George E. Steele in charge. Pallbearers were Amos Lee, Hans Detlefsen, James Mundt, William Jansen, F.D. Ross and John Reetz. Interment was in the Manning Cemetery.
Relatives from the distance attending the funeral were: Mrs. John Claussen and son Elmer of Avoca: Mr. and Mrs. Dick Stuedeman of Flandreau, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Emil Stuedeman of Charlotte, Iowa; Mrs. Peter Claussen of Flandreau, South Dakota; Mrs. C.A. Easterly of Audubon; Max and Vertus Stuedeman of Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Claussen of West Point, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Farley of Manilla; Mr. and Mrs. P.H. Sievers and Mr. and Mrs. John G. Rix of Arcadia.
