Services for Mrs. Martha Moore Held Saturday, December 5

Mrs. Martha Rosanna Moore, 85, passed away at her home in Irwin on Wednesday, December 2, 1936.

Martha Rosanna Richards was a daughter of George and Delilah Richards, both natives of Indiana. She was born at North Manchester, Indiana, on January 29, 1851, hence attained the age of 85 years, 10 months, and 3 days.

Her life was connected with the pioneers of this country, having been born in a log cabin and also spending the first years of her schooling in a log cabin school house.

She was united in marriage to Joseph Moore September 10, 1868. To this union nine children were born, four of these, Charley, George, Ella, and Frank, preceded their mother in death. Her husband passed away on February 13, 1917.

Mr. and Mrs. Moore came from Indiana to Tama county, Iowa, in 1869. From there they moved to Shelby County, Iowa, in 1876. They lived on a farm in Jefferson Township near Botna, until 1914 when they purchased a home in Irwin, and she had resided here since.

Mrs. Moore is survived and mourned by five children; they are Mrs. Julia Dunlap, Irwin; Brick Moore, Botna; Mrs. Deda Dalby, Irwin; Mrs. Rhoda Dales, Manilla; Mrs. Maude Newlan of Douglas, Nebraska. There are also 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Ed Richards of Irwin, and Elias Richards of Mova, Minnesota.

Her life was characterized by a strong Christian faith, the Bible being her constant comfort. She departed this life calmly and in readiness, making all the arrangements for her passing.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday afternoon, December 5, from the home and from the Christian Church, Rev. A. Chris Itse conducting the services. Songs were sung by a mixed quartette consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ames, Mrs. Peter Steenhusen, Jr., and Mr. Swank. Casket bearers were George and Fremont Richards, nephews; Charles Dalby, Clinton Moore, Kenneth Dales, Ellsworth Dunlap, grandsons of Mrs. Moore.

Those from a distance that attended the funeral services Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. N.C. NewIan of Douglas, Nebraska; Mrs. Robert McCormick and her daughter, Mrs. Charles Reynolds, Perry, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dalby, Mr. and Mrs. S.L. Thomas, Council Bluffs; Mr. and Mrs. Elsworth Dunlap of Audubon, Mrs. Vic Madison and son, Charles, of Corley, Iowa.
