Mr. McConnell suffered third degree burns over his entire body when his clothing ignited. He drove his tractor half a mile to his home after the accident, and was rushed to the hospital by Carl Petersen, Manning salesman, who was passing the farm and saw him in the farmyard.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at 2 at the Ohde Funeral home in Manning, with the Rev. Brown Garlock of the Manning Methodist Church in charge. Pallbearers were Ralph Berkheimer and Jim Spear of Manning; Gale Moore, Arthur Hansen and Otto Buthman of Botna; and Bill Meyer of Lake View. Burial was at Irwin.
Mr. McConnell was born on December 6, 1883, at Botna, where he lived all his life. On November 22, 1905, he was married to Viola Corson, also of Botna. She survives, as well as four sons: Milford and Elvin who live on farms near Manning; Virgil of Stockton, California, and Gerald of Venice, California. He also leaves three sisters: Mrs. Ira Mitchell (Clara), and Miss Florence McConnell of Moorhead; Mrs. Ray Flint (Pearl) of Littleton, Colorado, and two brothers, Nye of Kingsley, and George McConnell of Troy, Kansas. There are eight grandchildren.
Mr. McConnell was a member of the United Brethren Church.
