Funeral services for the late Mrs. P.K. Paulsen, one of Irwin's highly respected ladies, were conducted from the Methodist Church in Irwin Wednesday afternoon, April 20 at 2 o'clock. The services were in charge of Rev. A. Chr. Itse, and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery just south of town. Mrs. Paulsen's death occurred Saturday, April 16, and followed an illness of eight month's duration. Her age was 68 years, 1 month and 28 days.
Deceased's maiden name was Marie Hansen and she was born in Langenhorn, Germany, on February 18, 1864. She came to the United States in 1882 and three years later, in 1885, was united in marriage with Peter Engeland. Mr. Engeland passed away in 1886. One daughter, Meta, came to bless this union, but passed away at the age of sixteen months.
In the year 1888 she was united in marriage to Chris Petersen and to this union six children were born. One child passed away in infancy. Another daughter, Meta, passed away in young womanhood. The surviving children of this marriage are three sons and one daughter, Detlef, Nick, Tillie and Henry, all living in Canada.
Mr. and Mrs. Petersen made their home in the Irwin vicinity for eighteen years, but in 1907 moved to Canada, where Mr. Petersen's death occurred in 1921.
In 1925, Mrs. Petersen returned to Iowa and soon thereafter was united in marriage with P.K. Paulsen, who survives her. She is also survived by the following step-children: August, Carl, Alfred and Ted Paulsen, Mrs. Roy Larson, Mrs. Elsie McMahon and Alice Paulsen.
Deceased was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith while still a resident of Germany.
Besides her children, she leaves to mourn her departure her husband, three brothers, two sisters and fifteen grandchildren. The brothers are Nick, Emil and John Hansen of Irwin, and the sisters are Mrs. Paulina Bargenquast of Manilla and Mrs. Tina Nebe of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.
