Margaretha Wegner
Mrs. Margaretha Wegner, daughter of Mr. Hilbert, was born November 4, 1848, in Krumbeck, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. In 1854 her parents emigrated to America, and settled for a short time in Davenport and later in Clinton County, where she was united in marriage to Mr. Henry Wegner, August 21, 1868. This union was blessed with eleven children. Four sons and seven daughters, most of them are living in and near Manning; one little girl died in infancy. In 1875, the Wegner family moved to Crawford County and settled near Aspinwall, where Mr. Wegner died about 9 years ago. Three years after the death of her husband Mrs. Wegner moved to Manning, living first alone, later at times with her children and the family Ewoldt.

For some time the deceased had been offering and required she was operated two weeks ago. The gallstones were removed, but in place of the hoped for recovery. Mrs. Wegner became weaker and died Tuesday morning, December 28, 1915, having reached the age of 67 years, 1 month, and 24 days.

She leaves to mourn her grateful children: William Wegner; Anna, wife of Fred Ehlers; Oval, wife of Herman Sinow; Emma, wife of William Sander; George Wegner; Gustie, wife of Karl Ehlers; Maggie, wife of Hugo Kuhl; Frank Wegner in South Dakota; Ella, wife of Emil Ehlers and Emil Wegner, besides 24 grandchildren, two brothers, Claus Hilbert of Welton, Iowa, and Hans Hilbert of Denison, Iowa, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral service was held in the Presbyterian Church, Tuesday afternoon, Rev. G. Krumm, officiating. May she rest in Peace!
