Funeral services for Mrs. Marx Schrum, 87, were held Monday afternoon at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, with the Rev. Johann M. Ansorge in charge. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery and pallbearers were John Mundt, Henry Popp, Alfred Kuhl, George Mohr, Henry G. Martens, and Willis Puck.
Mrs. Schrum, who had been in poor health for several years, died at her home, November 16, 1945.
She was born March 11, 1858, at North Dithmarschen, Holstein, Germany. Her maiden name was Margaretha Christina Vehrs. She came to the United States in 1881 and settled first near Denison, later northwest of Manning. She has lived in her present home in Manning since 1923.
She was married to Marx Schrum, March 11, 1879, in Germany.
Surviving are four sons, Herman, Clark, South Dakota; Willie, Casey, Iowa; Gus of Manilla, and Hugo of Manning, also five daughters, Mrs. Anna Ewoldt, Manilla; Mrs. Mary Stammer, Manning; Amanda Schrum, Manning; Mrs. Emma Schroeder, Flandreau, South Dakota; Mrs. Alvina Schroeder, Egan, South Dakota, and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Gus Vehrs, and also 31 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Three children died in infancy and her husband passed away in 1928.
Mrs. Schrum was a member of the Manning Zion Lutheran Church.
