Funeral services for Mrs. William Witt were held at the Zion Lutheran Church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 with the Rev. John M. Ansorge in charge of the final rites. Pallbearers were nephews, Gilbert Walter and Ray Martens, Clarence Kracht, Marlyn Witt, and Freddie Ehlers. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery.
Mrs. Witt was born Margaret Martens, the eldest daughter of Detlef and Lena (Ehlers) Martens, in Washington Township, Carroll County, July 24, 1869.
She was married to William Witt, and they continued to make their home in Washington Township where they farmed.
She passed away suddenly at her home March 22, 1945. She had not been feeling well for several days and was unable to attend funeral services for her brother-in-law, William Witt, the Sunday before. However, she had arisen as usual and eaten breakfast and a few hours later passed away. Her death came as a shock to the family and the community. She was a member of the Lutheran Church and of the American Legion Auxiliary members of the organization attended the services in a body.
Mr. Witt passed away in 1939. Survivors include her children, Arnold, Carroll; Erwin, Herbert, Regilda, and Edna of Manning, also two grandchildren, Wayne Witt, Omaha, and Phyllis Witt, Chicago; also one sister, Miss Annina Martens and five brothers, Peter A., William J., Henry J., John, and Detlef Martens, all living in or near Manning.
Mrs. Witt was a good mother and neighbor. She was always willing to assist whenever needed and at all times took part in the work done by the American Legion Auxiliary by donations whenever requested to do so.
Mrs. Witt's death was the third in the relationship in less than a week. Her sister-in-law, Mrs. Emil Wiese, passed away the day before Mrs. Witt, and her brother-in-law's death occurred the Friday before.
