ELSIE MARGARET WILLESEN
Elsie, daughter of Dedrick and Emilia (Martens) Fonken, was born October 27, 1902, in Washington Township, Carroll County, Iowa. She attended Washington Center No. 5 rural school through the eighth grade.

On September 25, 1929, Elsie was united in marriage with Edwin Willesen. They farmed their entire married life west of Gray in Lincoln Township. Elsie stayed on the farm after her husband's death in 1976, moving to the Friendship Home in Audubon in August of 1989.

Elsie suffered a stroke and was taken to St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll where she died on Thursday evening, September 30, 1993, at the age of 90 years, 11 months, and 3 days.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Donna Mae, in infancy; a great-grandson, Benjamin Pedersen; a brother, John Fonken; and a sister, Melinda Fonken.

Survivors include her daughters: Myra and her husband, Amos Asmus, of Audubon and Sharon and her husband, Dennis Grimm, of Manning; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Elsie was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Later she held membership in Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township where she was a member of the Mission Aid Society and of the Trinity Choir. Elsie was an avid flower gardener and took pride in the care of her poultry. Her family and especially her grandchildren, were a joy to her.
