Margaret, daughter of Gus and Bertha (Opperman) Vehrs, was born May 13, 1898, in Crawford County, Iowa. She attended rural schools near her home. In 1918, she was united in marriage with Emil Wegner, in Crawford County, Iowa. They farmed until 1927 when they moved into Aspinwall. On April 15, 1939, Emil died and shortly thereafter Margaret moved to Manning where she spent the rest of her life.

Margaret was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.

She had been in failing health for several months before she died on Saturday, November 5, 1983, at the Bayard Care Center, Bayard, Iowa. She was 85 years, 5 months, and 23 days at the time of her death.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Paul, in 1980; one grandson, Michael Wegner, in 1965, at the age of 15 years; four brothers, Peter, Herbert, John, and Edward Vehrs; and one sister Ella, Mrs. Emil Puck.

She is survived by six children: Melvin Wegner of Gray, Warren Wegner of Des Moines, Lucille, Mrs. Maynard Thompson of Eagle Grove, Frank Wegner of Sioux Rapids, Donald Wegner of Des Moines, Judith Wegner of Des Moines, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, one brother, Harold Vehrs of Manning, three sisters, Helen, Mrs. Louie Miller of Manning, Mrs. Verna Olberts of East Moline, Illinois, Viola, Mrs. Henry Jensen of Audubon, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
