Mamie Hammer

Mamie Pauline Hammer was born on April 7, 1885, daughter of Henry Hammer and Louise (Kruse) Hammer, in Clinton County, Iowa. As a small child she moved with her parents to the Manning, Iowa, vicinity and received her education in Crawford County and grew to womanhood. The family moved to Moody County in March of 1911. She was married on December 27, 1911, to Herman C. Schroeder at Flandreau. They farmed here for one year and then moved to Manning, Iowa area for one year. They returned to Moody County where they farmed west of Flandreau until 1956 when they retired and moved into Flandreau. She suffered a stroke in 1957 and in 1960 entered Riverview Manor where she has since lived.

She is survived by one daughter, Florence, Mrs. Edward Mengenhauser, Flandreau, three brothers, Charley Hammer, Elkton and Louie and Emil Hammer of Flandreau; also five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one sister and two brothers.

Pallbearers include Virtus Schroeder, Arlo Schroeder, Wilber Schroeder, Francis Kreber, Stanley Hammer, and Ted Kruse.
