Madonna Roberts

Madonna Mae Roberts, 82, of Newton died Thursday, November 3, 2011, at Skiff Hospice Monarch Wing in Newton.

A funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 8, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 7, 2011, at the funeral home. A private family burial will be held at Newton Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Skiff Hospice or Park Centre Care Center may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Edward and Amanda Henrietta (Lorenzen) Steen, Madonna was born October 29, 1929, in Botna, Iowa. She grew up in the Botna area and was united in marriage with William Roberts on August 26, 1950, in Manning, Iowa. After living many places during their first 18 years of marriage, Madonna and Bill made their home in Newton in 1968. Madonna was a 1948 graduate of Manning High School in Manning, Iowa.

Madonna was a homemaker and had also sold cosmetics and worked at Bob Hawkins Photography part time. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, sewing, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. Madonna and Bill also loved the 25 winters they spent in the Florida Keys and the many motor home trips they made across the United States and Canada.

Madonna is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Roberts of Newton; three daughters, Lynn Kennedy of Altoona, Karen (David) Honold of Des Moines and Janet (Dean) Nihart of Johnston; and grandchildren Matthew (Jillian) Carter, Bryan (Amanda) Carter, Joseph Honold, Paul Honold and Amy Nihart.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
