Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Carl Sinning, retired pastor of First Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial will be in the Manning Cemetery.
Bonita Hagedorn will be organist and Judy Joens soloist for the final rites. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons John, James, Donald, Douglas, David, Robert, and Thomas Opperman.
Surviving are three sons: George, Ivan and William Opperman, all of Manning; a daughter Mrs. Dee (Jane) Kimberly, Boca Raton, Florida; 20 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Opperman was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers: Albert Dietz and two others in their youth.
She was born September 26, 1896, at Manning, a daughter of George and Agnes (Arp) Dietz. She attended school to the 10th grade and was married to Emil John Opperman December 23, 1919. After their marriage they lived on the Dietz farm north of Manning, farming until their retirement in 1951 when they moved to Manning. Since the death of her husband in 1977 she had been a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian church, was past president of Emil Ewoldt Post No. 22, American Legion Auxiliary, past president of the Homemakers club and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. For several years she served as leader of the Manning Cadets 4-H club.
