Lynn Jeffrey Wiese was born on January 18, 1951, in Manning,
Iowa, a son of Forrest and Virginia (Greteman) Wiese.
Lynn was married to Carol Johnson on October 15, 1977, in Mason City at Holy Family Catholic Church.
Lynn was a loving husband, father and papa. He unselfishly gave his love and support to his family. Nothing made him smile more than the pride he felt for his daughter, Lyndsay, and his grandchildren, Parker (7) and Fynley (4).
Lynn was a well-respected leader within the community. He was an active member of the Kiwanis and Knights of Columbus. He had a deep faith, which was evident in the way he lived and his involvement within his church.
Lynn graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in Carroll in 1969. He earned a B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa in 1973. He went on to earn a J.D. in 1976 from the University of Iowa College of Law, where he was recognized for excellence in appellate advocacy. Following admission to the Iowa Bar on June 17, 1976, Lynn became an associate with Barker, Hansen & McNeal in Iowa Falls, for whom he had served as a legal intern. He was a valued member of that firm, which later became known as Barker, McNeal, Wiese & Holt, until his death. Lynn loved the practice of law and always upheld the finest traditional standards of professionalism. He thrived on his interaction with judges and with colleagues. Lynn believed an attorney should always uphold the dignity of the law and was uniformly courteous and unfailingly impeccably dressed. He was formal in salutations to clients and members of the public.
Lynn was well-read and put his knowledge, undergraduate English degree, and advocacy skills into daily use in his law practice. His broad vocabulary frequently required his secretaries to scramble to the dictionary to decipher his dictation. Lynn's strong communication skills allowed him to be an effective and zealous defender of the law and of his clients. Lynn was a respected member of the legal community and gave generously of his time and talents. He served on the Iowa State Bar Association Board of Governors for six years and was inducted into the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers in 2014. Lynn was a general practice attorney, but was recognized as an exceptionally gifted trial attorney.
Proud of the legal profession, Lynn sought to promote it, especially among young persons. For many years he coached the Iowa Falls Middle School Mock Trial team, with his team winning the State championship in 1999. Lynn also volunteered countless hours judging mock trial competitions at both the District and State levels.
Lynn is survived by his wife, Carol; a daughter, Lyndsay
Sayre, and her husband, Matt; two grandchildren, Parker and Fynley;
a brother, Lon Wiese, and his wife, Barbara; a sister, Shelley Tegels, and her husband, Jerry; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Terry and Brent Wiese.
