Lowell Myron Stammer, age 70, of Carroll passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor Brian Licht officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home after 5:00 P.M. on Monday where there will be a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Tuesday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery with military honors by the Carroll American Legion. Casket bearers will be Paul Baumhover, Kevin Eischeid, Wayne Zimny, Jerry Vorsten, Merlin Schau, and Ron Richardson.
Born on May 20, 1943, in Carroll, Iowa, he was the son of Leslie and Ella (Nobiling) Stammer. He grew up in the Manilla - Manning area and graduated from Manning High School in 1961. As a boy, he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Following high school he attended a mechanic's school in Omaha. He worked as a mechanic until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1966. He was stationed in Vietnam during the war.
Lowell was married to Connie Mildenstein on June 8, 1963, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. The couple lived in Carroll where he worked for Crouse Cartage for 33 years retiring in 2000. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he served as the chairman of the board of finance. He was a member of the Carroll American Legion, the Teamsters Union and the R.P.M. Club. Lowell enjoyed restoring old cars for which he received many trophies and awards. He enjoyed going to car shows, going to coffee with his friends, going to the Crouse Cartage Family Picnics, and spending time with his family.
Lowell is survived by his wife Connie of Carroll; his mother Ella Stammer of Carroll; three daughters: Ann Lorenzen of Carroll, Lori Dicks and her husband Jason of Storm Lake, and Carrie Reiling and her husband Jess of Dallas Center, Iowa; a son Marty and his wife Paula of Rock Valley, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister Lola Rowedder and her husband Doug of Denison; two brothers-in-law: Dennis Mildenstein and his wife Anna of Medford Massachusetts, and Don Mildenstein and his wife Sharyl of Lake View; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lowell was preceded in death by his father 1984 and his grandparents.
