Louise Fredericka Kruse was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, June 26th, 1866. She was the oldest daughter of Ernest and Wilhelmina Kruse. When she was 4 years of age when she came to the United States with her parents, and the family located at Clinton, Iowa.
At 15 years of age she came to Crawford County and worked two miles west of town. On June 3rd, 1887 she was united in marriage to Johannes Nissen,
the ceremony being performed at Denison, Iowa. To this marriage there were nine children:
Emma, who died in infancy
Alma, ( Mrs. Alfred Schroeder of Manning)
Ernest C. of Manning George of Manning
Alfred of Manning Minnie at home
John of Manning Charles of Manning
Rose (Mrs. George Gordon of Manning)
Besides eight children who are left there are 15 grandchildren, and a sister Mrs. Gragg of Omaha. Mr. Nissen preceded her in death in January 1919. Since her marriage, up to about 5 years ago, Mrs. Nissen had lived on a farm and it was not until 1929 that she moved to town, making her residence on 3rd street. For the last 5 or 6 years Mrs. Nissen has suffered from diabetes, but not in its acute form. On the 6th of January of this year, however, her illness developed seriously and on the 18th of January, Friday night, at 8:00 o'clock she passed away, dying peacefully in the presence of her eight children.
She was 68 years, 6 months and 23 days when she died.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Ohde Funeral Home with Rev. Hough officiating.
Pall bearers were John Lewis, Julius Wehrmann, Henry Mueller, Martin Petersen, August Gebhardt, and Chris Hollander.
