Death of Mrs. Henry Nieman.

Mrs. Louisa Nieman, nee Niederfrank was born October 6, 1842, in Bliefeld, Prussia. Her father died before she was born. Later her mother married Caspar Brandhorst and the family, consisting of herself and one brother, Caspar Niederfrank, was enlarged by the birth of two children, Mary, who is now Mrs.

W.C. Nieman, and Henry Brandhorst, of Manning, Iowa. The family came to America when she was nine years of age, landing after a journey of eight weeks, at New Orleans on January 1, 1850. On their way from New Orleans to St. Louis her mother was stricken with cholera and died. The step-father with the four children, traveled farther north to Guttenberg, Iowa, but shortly after locating there he was killed by an accident while handling rock. The children, thus totally bereft of parents, were placed under the guardianship of one William Oberbeck. Mrs. Nieman was compelled to work for neighbors for a livelihood at this time. She was confirmed at Guttenberg in the Lutheran faith at the proper age and on June 26, 1862, she was married to Henry Nieman. Mr. and Mrs. Nieman resided for 5 years at Osterdock, Clayton County. In 1867 they moved to Elk Township, where they resided for thirty years. Since 1897 they have made Earlville their home.

Mr. and Mrs. Nieman were the parents of ten children, eight surviving their mother, viz: Mrs. Amanda Haker, of Manchester; Mrs. Mary Gienapp, of Earlville; Mrs. Lydia McElmeel, of Greeley; Mrs. John Wendt, and Miss Louisa, of Earlville; Carl H. of Earlville; Martin E. and Henry C. of Manchester. Two sons, John and William, preceded their mother in death.

Mrs. Nieman was taken sick about a year ago with lagrippe and liver trouble developed. She suffered two relapses and died at her home in this city February 26, 1910, aged 67 years, 4 months, and 20 days. Besides the husband, three sons and five daughters, she is survived by a brother, a half-brother, a half sister and eight grandchildren.

The funeral services were held this morning from Emanuel Lutheran Church in this city, Rev. Fr. Lutz officiating. Burial was made in Fairview Cemetery.
