Lorraine Elaine Weitl

Lorraine Elaine Weitl, age 77, of Templeton, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, October 18, 2010, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton with Fr. Dale Reiff as Celebrant. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 P.M. on Sunday where there will be a Rosary at 3:00 P.M. and a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 P.M. Lector for the Mass will be Marty Danzer, gift bearers will be Lorraine’s Granddaughters, and the Sacred Heart Men’s Choir will sing. Casket bearers will be Lorraine’s Grandsons. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Templeton.

Born on January 24, 1933, at Mt. Carmel, Iowa, she was the daughter of Frank and Julia (Bruning) Stangl. She grew up in Mt. Carmel and graduated from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic High School in 1950. She was married to Raymond Weitl on February 5, 1952, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. The couple farmed and raised their family three miles east of Templeton. Her husband passed away in 1997 and Lorraine lived on the farm until 2007 when she moved to the Carroll Health Center. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Templeton. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting, crocheting, knitting, puzzles and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving are three daughters: Diane Berger and her husband Gerald of Arcadia, Pat Franklin of Port Orchard, Washington, and Kathy Hilliard and her husband Mike of Templeton; four sons: Mike Weitl and his wife Jan of Templeton, Joe Weitl of Carroll, Bill Weitl and his wife Shona of Manning, and Jim Weitl and his wife Sue of Carroll; 17 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; three sisters: Eunice Reising of Breda, Cedella Danzer of Carroll, and Marilyn Berg and her husband Dennis of Arcadia; three brothers: Warren Stangl and his wife Laura of Claremont, Minnesota, Merle Stangl of Atlantic, and Glen Stangl and his wife Margaret of Osage, Iowa; and two sisters-in-law: Arlene Stangl of Dedham and Ella Weitl of Manning. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters: Alma Mattes and Elaine Schmitz, and three brothers: Kenneth, Vernon, and Gaylord Stangl.
