Lorene Caroline Walker McAllister Maley was born September 25, 1913, to Ralph and Ella Walker in Manning, Iowa. She had one sibling, her younger brother Richard Walker. After graduating from high school, Lorene worked in her Dad's insurance office in Cedar Rapids. She married John E. McAllister in 1934 and while in Iowa, they added 2 children to their family, Jack (John) and 5 years later, Jane.

John was in sales for Standard Oil when WWII started. He followed a fraternity brother to Portland, Oregon to work in the Kaiser shipyards building ships for the war effort. John was able to find housing in the St. John's area and Lorene and the children traveled out by train.

After living in Portland the family moved to Prineville, Oregon, where John started working as the manager of the Farmer's Co-op. The family built a new home and grew by one member (Kathleen). John had an opportunity to become owner in a farm supply store and so the family moved to Burns in the early 50s. The kids attended school here and Lorene was active in their activities. She often drove many hours to hauling kids to various high schools for football or basketball games. She and John made many friends and entertained with the evening typically ending with at least one game of Canasta.

The Harney County Farm Supply eventually grew to include three additional stores in John Day and Elko and Winnemucca, Nevada. When John died suddenly in 1961 of a heart attack, Jack returned home from the University of Nevada to manage the family business. Lorene made many trips to Nevada during those years to help monitor business at the stores.

Friends introduced Lorene to Luren Maley, a widower and rancher from Condon. Their long distance courtship ended in marriage in 1971. Lorene moved to Condon and became part of Loren's family (three children: Paul, Dennis and Sheila).

Lorene and Luren were both very social and loved to dance and travel. During their marriage they traveled all over the world. They kept a place in Arizona where they went for winters and to spend time with the many friends they had met there. Lorene's other passion was painting. She joined a group of women in Condon who got together regularly to paint. Painting remained Lorene's favorite pastime throughout her life.

Lorene and Luren moved to Bend in the early 2000s so Luren could be closer to the medical support he required. She continued to live in the retirement community in Bend after Luren passed away several years later. She moved to Beaverton in 2007 to be near her daughters.

The family was starting to plan Lorene's 100th birthday party when she died the morning of August 27th. Nobody was more surprised that she lived as long as she did than Lorene herself. She lived a long fulfilling life and will be missed by family and friends.

She is survived by her three children Kathleen McAllister, Jane Griffin and Jack McAllister and six grandchildren.
