Prominent West Side Lady Dies At Age Of 53

Westside, Ia. - Words cannot express our sorrow over the death of a beloved friend, Mrs. L.L. Schoenjahn. Although not entirely unexpected, her death was a great shook to friends in this community. Mrs. Schoenjahn submitted to an operation last, June for the removal of a growth, from which she recovered nicely. Although not feeling too well the past few weeks, she kept up her courage and strength. Since the early part of January she failed fast and on Sunday, February 5th she became seriously ill and was removed to the Carroll hospital where she had another operation. Her strong will and great courage was not enough to sustain her life and she passed away at 4 o'clock A.M., February 9th, 1939 at the age of 53 years and 3 days. Death was caused by cancer.

Liesa (Joenek) Schoenjahn was born in Clinton, Iowa, on, February 16th, 1886. She was united in marriage to L.L. Schoenjahn Dec. 20, 1911, at Clinton. She then came with her husband to Westside and settled on the late Henry Schoenjahn homestead. They resided there until a number of years ago when they moved to town. During the past two years they have been employed on the farm by the Murphy Bros. west of Carroll. They were blessed with two children: Ida, Mrs. John Musfeldt; and Henry, at home. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith at the age of five years. She was a member of the St. John's Evangelical church in Westside and of the Ladies' Aid and Order of Eastern Star.

Besides her grief-stricken husband and children, she leaves to mourn, three brothers: Hans Joenck of Clinton; Dr. Alfred Joeneck of Iowa City and Chris Joenck of Iowa City; three sisters, Mrs. Charley Mielk of Westside, Mrs. Bert Marlowe of Charlotte, and Kathryn at Independence, Ia., and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday with a short service at the A.G. Schoenjahn home and at 2 o'clock from the church. Rev. Otto had charge. Mrs. John Korn and Miss Lucille Lashier sang two hymns. The remains were laid to rest in he Westside cemetery. Those who attended the casket were A.A. Oltrogge, Ernest Massman, Earl Brown, C.H. Bornhoft and L.C. Thiedeman.

Steve Hoft, Mrs. Louie Hoft, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hoft, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Hoft of Wall Lake; Misses Alice and Lucille Schoenjahn of Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Peter Sabus, Mr. and Mrs. Irving Prince of Carroll, Mr. land Mrs Fred Taylor of Boyer, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Schwartzenbach of Carroll.
