Funeral services for Lewis William Schroeder were held Monday, May 23, 1983, at Zion Lutheran Church, Manning, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Edward F. Heinicke officiating. Interment was in Manning City Cemetery with Roland Derner, Bert Brandt, Wilmer Ranniger, Alan Lorenzen, Leman Ehlers and Ray Friedrichsen as casketbearers. Ohde Funeral Home, Manning, was in charge of arrangements.

Lewis, son of Herman and Amelia Rowedder Schroeder, was born April 9, 1914, in Washington Township, Carroll County, Iowa. He attended the country school near his home. When Lewis was 14 years old his father died and Lewis quit school and began working to help support the family.

He was united in marriage with Alma Pfoltner on November 22, 1939. To this union were born two children: Judith Marie and Lowell Lewis. Lewis and his wife farmed in the Aspinwall and Westside area.

Lewis and his wife moved to Manning in 1975.

He had been in failing health for some time and passed away May 20, 1983, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, at the age of 69 years, 1 month and 11 days.

Lewis was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother and sister in infancy.

He is survived by his wife, Alma, of this community; by his daughter. Judith and her husband Jim Boysen of Holstein, Iowa, and his son, Lowell and wife Betty of rural Manilla; by six grandchildren, Debra, Linette and Ted Boysen and Julie, Janet and Jennifer Schroeder; by three brothers, Merlin Schroeder of Manning, Kenneth Schroeder of Iroquois, South Dakota, and Norman Schroeder of Huron, South Dakota.

Lewis was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. He was baptized September 27, 1914, and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith on January 11, 1948, by Rev. J.M. Ansorge.


Lewis Schroeder is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
