Letty Louise, daughter of Dr. Edward W. "Dick" and Elma (Petersen) Frahm, was born June 28, 1929, at Manning Hospital. Her mother died during childbirth and Letty was raised by her maternal grandparents Andrew and Catherine Petersen in Manning.
Letty graduated from Manning High School with the class of 1947. She then received her secretarial degree at Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines. Before moving back to Manning, Letty worked as a secretary for the 132nd Air Corps in Des Moines. She then worked for the Superintendent at Manning High School. Letty was the Secretary to the Administrator at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll for over 20 years.
On June 2, 1951, Letty was united in marriage to Walter Rothmeyer at Sacred Heart Church in Manning. From this union two children were born, Reesa and Rae. Walt and Letty owned and operated a grocery store in Audubon before moving to a farm south of Westside, which they later purchased. Walt died in April 1984 and Letty moved to her little house in Westside that fall.
Letty married Johnnie Stender on November 27, 1992, at the United Church of Westside. Johnnie died in May, 2013. She was a member of St. Ann's Church in Vail, various Card Clubs and the Alfred R. Rossman American Legion Auxiliary. Letty enjoyed traveling, trips to the casino, reading while she was able, watching Dr. Phil, and spending her winters in Texas. She had an incredible love for her cat Pepi. Letty never needed to be in assisted living; she was assisted by her friends living in Westside.
She was diagnosed with cancer in late September. Letty died at St. Anthony Regional Hospital on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at the age of 87 years, 3 months, and 14 days.
Preceding her in death were her parents; first husband Walt; daughter Reesa; grandson Benjamin Miller; second husband Johnnie, and half-sister Jan Steiner.
Left to cherish Letty's memory are Rae and Jim Miller; grandchildren Kendra and Tim; step-children Don and Vangie Stender, Pam and Rob Wiprud and Shelly and Dean Longgood; step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren Justin, Karina and Sophie Stender, Shynell, Craig, Adia and Garrin Newell, Rob, Laura and Lucas Wiprud, Miranda Wiprud, Carly and Alex Deal, John, Stephanie and Griffin Grote, Collin Grote and Michael Grote; many other relatives and friends.
