Lester Emil Frederich Meggers
Lester, son of Gustav and Minna Jahn Meggers, was born August 28, 1919, near Manilla, in Iowa Township, Crawford County, Iowa. He attended country school near Manilla. After his schooling, Lester worked on the family farm.

On September 25, 1940, Lester was united in marriage with Eunice Wiese at the Lutheran church in Buck Grove. One son was born to this union. When Lester's father retired in 1942, Lester took over the family farm. In 1979, Lester stopped farming the land, but continued to raise livestock until his retirement in 1993. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing the accordion in several polka bands. He enjoyed his family very much, and was very proud of his three granddaughters.

On February 3, 1999, Lester was admitted to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines where he died unexpectedly Saturday, February 6. He reached the age of 79 years, 5 months and 9 days.

Besides his parents, Lester is preceded in death by a brother John Meggers and his wife Edna; two sisters: Anna, in infancy, and Malinda and her husband Ed Erps; and a brother-in-law Rockley Wiese.

He is survived by his wife Eunice Meggers of Manilla; a son Gene Meggers and his wife Marge of Manilla; three granddaughters: Stephanie, Amy and Ivy Meggers of Manilla; a sister-in-law Dorothy Wiese of Manning; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Lester Meggers is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
