Leslie Stammer
Leslie, son of Louis and Mary (Schrum) Stammer, was born October 1, 1909, in Hayes Township, Crawford County, Iowa. He attended country schools near his home. He worked as a farm laborer around Westside and Manning before his marriage.

He was united in marriage with Ella Nobiling on January 30, 1940, at Arcadia. After their marriage, they farmed in the Westside and Manning areas until 1948 when they moved to a farm south of Aspinwall, where he farmed until his retirement in 1975. The continued to live on the farm until 1982 when they moved into Manning.

Leslie was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He died on Thursday, February 16, 1984, as the result of a car accident on the outskirts of Manilla at the age of 74 years, four months, and 15 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Ella of Manning, his son, Lowell Stammer and his wife Connie of Carroll, his daughter, Lola Rowedder and her husband Douglas of Denison, three grandchildren, Scott Stammer, Jenna Stammer and Martin Stammer, two brothers, Harold Stammer of Manning, and Milo Stammer, of Manning. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Hugo, Gladys, Jahn of Manning, and Mrs. Ruvilla, Verna Rowedder of Carroll. He is also survived by two aunts, Amanda Schrum of Manning and Elvina Schroeder of South Dakota, one uncle, Gus Schrum of Manilla, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 18, 1984, at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning with the Reverend John Cornish of United Methodist Church in Manning officiating.

Music was provided by organist Dorothy Kusel and vocalist Larry Genzen. Interment was in the Westside Cemetery in Westside. Casketbearers were Willis Peterson, Stanley Ewoldt, Ed Handlos, Danny Rowedder, Stanley Grundmeier, and Carl Brandenburg.
