Leroy Venteicher, age 80, of Southern California, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, in California. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at Sacred Heart Church in Manning with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Manning. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM on Saturday at the church. Ohde Funeral Home in Manning is in charge of arrangements.
Leroy Paul Venteicher was born December 28, 1938, to Edward Anthony and Loretta (Kasperbauer) Venteicher. He was the oldest of eight children born on the family farm 5 miles outside of Manning, Iowa. Leroy graduated from Manning High School in May 1956 and continued his studies at Iowa State University in Ames where he obtained his BS in Electrical Engineering in 1960, his Master's Degree in May 1963, and his PhD in Electrical Engineering in November 1971. Leroy was consistently named on the ISU's Dean's List and accepted into numerous professional affiliations including Sigma Xi, Eta Kappa Nu, Tau Beta Pi, and Phi Kappa Phi. He also was in the Reserve Officers Training Corps.
Leroy accepted a faculty position as Assistant Professor in Electrical Engineering teaching and advising students at the University of Missouri in Rolla, Missouri, from 1971 to 1973. In 1974, he accepted a position with Hughes Aircraft Co. (later renamed as Raytheon) Missile Defense Systems Electronics Division in Huntington Beach, California. He continued to be a long-term resident of Southern California working as a Product Engineer. He was a lead product engineer designing and problem solving for the development engineering and manufacturing companies, winning numerous awards which included the Hughes Aircraft Company Excellence Award due to his expertise and ability to work in teams.
Leroy was a white-water enthusiast, supporter of the Sierra Club. He enjoyed bowling, tennis, and golf, traveling to many of the notable golf clubs throughout the Southwest. He was a consistent financial supporter of Iowa State University and the Catholic Youth Organization at ISU, and the Newman Club. He established the annual Leroy Venteicher Electrical Engineering Scholarship awarded to a promising young student engineer enrolled in Iowa State's Electrical Engineering program.
On Wednesday, October 30, 2019, Leroy passed away in Yorba Linda, California, at the age of 80 years.
Leroy is preceded in death by his parents: Edward and Loretta Venteicher; step-mother, Genevieve Venteicher; brother, Kenneth Venteicher; sister, Shirley Jane Sjobakken; and sister-in-law, Sil Venteicher.
He is survived by his siblings: James (Donna); Robert; Diane (Clark); Edward "Rick" (Karen); Lynn (Sue); brother-in-law James; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
