Leonard Edward Ramsey, son of Edward and Dolores (Ohm) Ramsey, was born April 28, 1933, at home outside of Manilla, Iowa. His family moved to Manning when he was in junior high. Leonard graduated from Manning High School in 1951. After high school he worked for Ramsey Transfer.

On September 5, 1955, Leonard was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Marlene June Horbach, at Sacred Heart Church in Manning. Six children were born to this union. Leonard and Marlene made their home in Manning until 1956 when they moved to Coon Rapids. Leonard worked with his father-in-law, John "Jack" Horbach at the Gamble Store. In 1961, they purchased the Coon Rapids Locker. Leonard established a name for himself and the locker was best known for its home-cured meat, especially beef jerky and dried beef. Leonard shipped these practically all over the United States. In 1988, the locker, along with Marlene's antique store burned down. Leonard then worked for Garst Seed part-time until he retired.

Leonard and Marlene enjoyed wintering in Florida, gambling and going to auctions together. Leonard was always willing to help others and could talk to anyone. He enjoyed going to ball games, spending time with his family, making beef jerky, restoring furniture, woodworking, especially making bird houses, playing cards, puzzles, the great outdoors and taking a walk in beautiful Iowa or on the sandy beaches of Florida.

His faith was an important part of his life. He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church where he had served as a Lay Director and belonged to the men's group. Leonard was also a volunteer fireman for several years and donated several gallons of blood.

In 2005, Leonard and Marlene celebrated 50 years of marriage. On June 6, 2006, Marlene passed away. Leonard continued to go to Florida in the winter. In 2009 Leonard moved to Parkview Assisted Living in Coon Rapids shortly after he was diagnosed with dementia. He resided there until 2016 when he moved to Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, Iowa.

Leonard was called home to be with our Lord on August 22, 2018. He died at Spurgeon Manor from congestive heart failure. He was 85 years, 3 months, and 25 days of age.
