LEO H. TERWILLEGER
Mass of Christian Burial for Leo H. Terwilleger was held Monday, 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Church in Defiance with Fr. Donald Bruck, celebrant. Burial was in St. Peter's Cemetery in Defiance. Rosary was said at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, Ia.
Leo H. Terwilleger, age 82, of Manning, formerly of Defiance, Iowa, was born March 22, 1896, near Defiance. He attended Defiance schools, served his country in WW I in France. He was united in marriage with Claire Mullen on August 27, 1924. He farmed near Defiance, then lived for a short time in Denison and Harlan. In the early 40s they moved back to Defiance where Leo operated the county maintainer. He retired in 1961 & continued to live in Defiance until moving to the Manning Plaza Nursing Home 3 years ago.
Leo died suddenly there on August 18, 1978, at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 26 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers.
Survivors include his wife Claire, of the Manning Plaza; 2 children, Donna, Mrs. Emmett Mullen of Manning, and Bob of Omaha; 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; 4 brothers, Earl of Logan, Frank of Manilla, Wayne of Dunlap, and Dick of California; 2 sisters, Mrs. Elsie How, Avoca, Iowa, and Mrs. Stanley (Hazel) How, Sun City, Arizona.
He was a member of the VFW in Harlan.
