Leo H. Smith

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 6, at 2 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning for Leo Smith, 62, of Manning. Pastor Edward P. Heinicke officiated with burial in the Manning Cemetery.
Leo Smith was born on December 23, 1910, at Jefferson, Iowa, and received his education in Jefferson and Des Moines schools.
He was married in 1934 to the former Helen Asmus in Manning, and worked in the bakery in Manning until 1935 when he moved to Jefferson to work in a bakery there. The Smiths moved back to Manning in 1969 after which he worked in grocery stores in Manning. His wife passed away on February 15, 1973.
Leo became ill the latter part of April and had been in the University Hospitals in Iowa City the past five weeks where he died early Sunday morning, June 3, 1973, at the age of 62.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three brother and one sister. Survivors include one son, Jim Smith of Williams Air Force Base in Arizona, three grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Glen Smith of Chicago, Mrs. Edgar (Lucille) Garnet of St. Petersburg, Florida, Mrs. Ralph (Fern) Dyer of Chimacum, Washington and one half-brother, Cleone Smith of Dubuque.


Leo Smith is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
