Lawrence Sporrer

The Rite of Christian Burial for Lawrence Sporrer was held Monday, August 23, 1993, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Manning, Iowa. Reverend Father Ralph Reinhart and Reverend Father Randy Schon were concelebrants with David Schon as lector and Theresa, Julie and Sarah Treinen as gift bearers. Music was provided by the Sacred Heart Choir and Larry Genzen was soloist. Interment was held in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Manning, Iowa with Jeff Halbur, Louie Andresen, Steve Tank, Russell Spies, Irwin Grau, Elmer Herbers, Ronald Hodne, and Ervin Pauley, Jr. as casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers were Roger Eischeid, Gene Rohe, Bob Tank, Melvin Renze, Wayne Justice, John Frees, Jack Lorenzen, Dick Hansen and Roy Struve.

Lawrence, son of Frank X. and Clara Kemper Sporrer, was born January 1, 1928, at Carroll, Iowa. He attended school in Templeton.

On May 5, 1949 Lawrence was united in marriage with Mildred Eich at St. Augustine Church in Halbur. To this union eight children were born. Lawrence and his wife made their home on a farm one-mile east of Manning.

Following a debilitating illness Lawrence died on Friday morning, August 20, 1993, at Manning General Hospital at the age of 65 years, 7 months, and 19 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred, of Manning; his children: Patricia and her husband, Richard Treinen, of Sioux City; Marilyn and her husband, Nolan Tillman, of Rochester, New York; Alice Sporrer of LeMars; Donna Sporrer of Carroll; Larry Sporrer, of Florida; Lynn Sporrer of Manning; Loran Sporrer of Manning; and Jennifer Sporrer of Carroll; five grandchildren; two sisters: Inez and her husbbnd, Owen Ohlinger, of Churdan and Dorothy and her husband, Louis Schon, of Glidden; a brother, Vernice (Sprig) Sporrer and his wife, Evelyn, of Templeton; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Lawrence was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Manning and in earlier years held membership in the Knights of Columbus. He especially enjoyed being with his family and having coffee with friends. One of Lawrence's great pleasures in life was raising cattle. He attended many cattle sales and was very proud of his own herd.
