Lawrence Spieker, 74, of Manning, died Saturday, November 19, 1983, at St. Luke Medical Center in Sioux City.
Rite of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 22, at Sacred Heart Church in Manning with the Rev. Msgr. Dean Walker as celebrant. David Spieker will be lector; gift-bearers Kim Wegner, Stacy Spieker and Renee Kral and mass-servers Steven and Douglas Vollstedt and Brian Spieker. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Serving as casket-bearers will be Duane, Jerome, Paul, LaVern, Larry, and Randy Spieker.
Rosaries will be recited at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning at 3 and 7:30 p.m. Monday.
Mr. Spieker is survived by his wife, Viola, Manning; 12 children: Duane, Shawnee, Kansas; Mrs. Donald (Norma) Petersen, Audubon; Mrs. Roger (Rose Mary) Vollstedt, Manning; Jerry, Norwalk, Iowa; Mrs. Richard (Marilyn) Popp, Tampa, Florida; Mrs. Joseph (Carol) Kral, Vail; Paul, Littleton, Colorado; LaVern, Indian Hills, Colorado; Mrs. LeRoy (Karen) Wegner, Sioux City; Larry, Moorhead, Minnesota; Mrs. Larry (Donna) Mohr, Mesa, Arizona, and Randy, Evergreen, Colorado; 36 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and two sisters: Mrs. Rose Trecker, Manning, and Mrs. Rudy (Dolly) Wessling, Carroll.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Mr. Spieker was born June 17, 1909, near Carroll, a son of Anton and Regina (Palzer) Spieker. He attended parochial school in Carroll.
On January 19, 1932, he was married to Viola Steininger. They farmed in the Templeton area until 1956 when they moved to a farm southeast of Manning where they farmed until 1975, then moved into west Manning. He was a member of Sacred Heart parish.
