LAVILLA TAYLOR Lavilla J. "Vi" Taylor, 85, a retired executive secretary, of Las Vegas, passed away March 16, 2011.
She was born April 28, 1925, the youngest daughter of John and Anna Bohnsack, at her parents' home in Manning, Iowa, and was a 25-year resident of Nevada. She moved to Carroll, Iowa, with her mother and three older sisters, graduating from Carroll High School in 1943.
During a girlfriend weekend in Chicago, she met the love of her life, James Taylor Jr., at the Aragon Ballroom. Vi and Jim married July 14, 1945, in Chicago, and they remained there. Vi was a stay-at-home mom until 1970, when she joined Canteen Corporation in Chicago, and worked there until she retired in 1983. Vi and her husband retired in Las Vegas and they enjoyed traveling the country in their motor home. Jim died in 1990 and Vi lived an independent life that was supported with the love of friends, family and church.
Vi was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Bohnsack; her sisters, Gerry Moorman and Elvera Gardels; her stepbrothers, Glenn and Gilbert Toyne; her stepfather, Ernie Toyne; and her husband, James W. Taylor Jr. Vi is survived by her son, James Taylor and his wife, Sharon of Greer, South Carolina; daughter, Joy Taylor of Chariton, Iowa; grandchildren, Scott, Michael, Anna and Jamie; sister, Maureen "Sis" Loots of West Des Moines, Iowa; nieces; nephews; and many dear friends.
Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Monday, March 21, with services following, both at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.
