Lanora Christena, daughter of Henry and Christena (Joachimsen) Rowedder, was born September 10, 1909, on the family farm in Washington Township, Carroll County, Iowa. As a youngster, Lanora’s family moved near Aspinwall where she attended school. After her schooling, Lanora stayed on the family farm to help with household and farming duties.

On March 14, 1934, Lanora was united in marriage with Louis Carl Popp at the home of Reverend Tews in Arcadia. For a number of years, Lanora and Louis rented farm ground near Glidden and Wall Lake before purchasing a farm one mile south of Manning. In 1972 they retired from farming and moved into Manning. After Louis died in 1979, Lanora remained in their home until becoming a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home on September 29, 1998.

Lanora was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Throughout the years she enjoyed making afghans and quilts, playing cards, tending to her flowers, baking pies, buns and cakes.

On Tuesday, October 9, 2001, Lanora died at the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in Manning, Iowa. She was 92 years and 1 month of age.

Besides her parents and husband, Lanora was preceded in death by two brothers Ira Rowedder and his wife Julia and Lyle “Cookie” Rowedder and his wife Thelma; a sister Elda and her husband Charles Stuhr; and a sister-in-law Verna Rowedder.

She is survived by two brothers Ruvilla Rowedder of Carroll and Glenn Rowedder and his wife Dorothy of Manning; many special nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
