Kreg Robert, son of Leonard and Mary (Grote) Sailer, was born February 14, 1965, in Carroll, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm east of Manning. He attended school in Manning, graduating with the Manning High School Class of 1983. Kreg then went to work for a short time in Oklahoma before enlisting with the United States Army and serving as a generator mechanic at Fort Carson, Colorado. After receiving his honorable discharge, Kreg returned to Iowa and worked at Southside Welding in Audubon for a few years. He then moved to Des Moines and worked as a machinist at Parr Manufacturing and Amatco. He was currently employed as a Low Voltage and Data Communication Service Technician for Baker Electric.

On November 25, 2000, Kreg was united in marriage with Jill Anderson at St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church in Des Moines. Kreg and Jill made their home in Urbandale.

On Thursday, April 5, 2001, Kreg died suddenly and unexpectedly at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa after suffering a massive heart attack in his home. He was 36 years, 1 month and 22 days of age.

Kreg was a member of Local 347 Electricians’ Union. He enjoyed golfing, cooking and was a talented handyman. Kreg will be greatly missed; he was a loving and caring person who had a great sense of humor.

Kreg was preceded in death by his grandparents Frank and Anna Sailer and Herman W. Grote, and an uncle Ralph Grote.

He is survived by his wife Jill Sailer of Urbandale; his parents Leonard and Mary Sailer of Manning; sisters: Kim and husband Scott Barnard of Manning; Kris and husband Dave Weitl of Pine, Colorado; Karla and husband Mike Hamann of Manning; brothers Kurt Sailer and Kevin Sailer, both of Waukee; his grandmother Colette Grote of Carroll; 10 nieces and nephews: Tyler, Noah, Haylee> and Hannah Barnard; Zachary and Samantha Weitl; Charlie, Melanie, Sydney and Ryann Hamann; aunts and uncles: Paul and Irma Grote, Norbert Grote, Leonard and Joyce Grote, Jack and Doreen Grote, Lorraine and Lyle Vonnahme, Jeanie and John Rosener, Jim and Mary Ann Grote, Bill and Nancy Grote, Alice and John Hamilton, Judy and Duane Olberding, Ted and Peggy Grote, Loretta Bernholtz>, Paul and Agatha Sailer, Clarence Sailer, Lillian and Neil Stork and Richard Sailer; Jill’s parents Dan and Carol Anderson of Atlantic; a brother-in-law Jason Anderson and wife Lori of Atlantic; and by other relatives and friends.
