Kenneth Rohde

Kenneth Leon Rohde, 87, of Davenport, died Thursday, August 18, 2016, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House after a lengthy illness. Per his wishes, cremation services have been accorded. A private burial service will be held at the Manning, Iowa, Cemetery later. The Runge Mortuary and Crematory of Davenport is in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth was born June 15, 1929, to Leo and Christina (Bruns) Rohde in Arcadia Township. He attended country school before entering Wall Lake, Iowa, High School and graduating in 1946. Four years were served in the Air Force from 1950-1954. In 1956, he graduated from the Nebraska State Trade School in Milton, Nebraska. He began his retirement from Johnson Controls of Moline in 1989. He had been one of the instructors for the Union's program for apprentices in the refrigeration and electrical fields.

Wintering in Texas during his early retirement years allowed for year-round golf, which was one of his favorite activities. He greatly enjoyed reading, fishing and traveling, as well. His volunteering activities included being a literacy tutor and a driver for the Mississippi blood bank.

His marriage to Dorla Deane Eckley took place in 1951 in Presque Isle, Maine, where he was stationed. They became parents of three children. A son, Thad Rohde, preceded him in death in 1980.

In addition to his wife, Dorla, Kenneth is survived by a daughter, Dixie Rohde of Davenport; a son, Drew Rohde of Kansas City, Missouri; and a granddaughter, Rachel Rohde of Gardner, Kansas. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia Masteller, and his parents.
