Katie Sander, 102, a Carroll County native, died Friday, November 26, 1982, at Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn where she had resided since July 8, 1959.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 29, at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Edward F. Heinicke, pastor of Zion, Lutheran church, officiating. Dorothy Kusel was organist and Nadine Heinicke and Ida Musfeldt vocalists. Burial was in the Manning City Cemetery. Serving as casketbearers were Donald, Darrel, Donivon, Jim and Terry Sander, and Wayne Jahn.
Mrs. Sander is survived by a son, Herman and his wife, Esther, Moundville, Missouri; five daughters-in-law: Mrs. Willetta Sander, Denison; Mrs. Florence Sander, Arnolds Park; Mrs. Lora Sander, Yreka, California; Mrs. Evelene Sander and Mrs. Viola Sander, both of Elk Horn; 22 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Henrietta Petersen, Clinton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five sons: William, Hugo, Louie, Max, and Harry; a sister, Amanda Lage; two brothers: John and Herman; a grandson, three great-granddaughters and one great-great-granddaughter.
Mrs. Sander was born October 7, 1880, in Washington Township, Carroll County, a daughter of Hans and Helena (Kruse) Moller. On February 10, 1904, she was married to Emil Sander at Carroll. They farmed three miles north of Manning for many years. When they retired, they moved to Manning and lived on Fourth Street. He died there on September 12, 1955.
