Funeral services for Kathryn Powell were held Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at 1 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Deloit, Iowa. Officiant was Reverend Hilmer Hafner with organist being Erna Mae Aldag. Interment was held in the Deloit Cemetery, Deloit, Iowa with Richard Lorenzen, Dennis Fink, Joel Fink, Wendell Argotsinger, Rick Meents and Jerry Hill as casketbearers. Honorary casket bearers were Donald E. Fritz, Richard Zaloudek and Robert Wulf.
Kathryn Powell was born April 24, 1950, the daughter of George and Lois (Weems) Wegner. She died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison at the age of fifty.
Kathryn was born in Manning, Iowa, and was baptized and later confirmed in the Christian faith. She received her education at the Manning Community School in Manning, Iowa, graduating with the Class of 1968. After completing her education, she moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where she worked at the Clarkson Hospital.
On July 7, 1985, Kathryn was united in marriage to Jim Powell at the Faith Lutheran Church in Deloit, Iowa. The couple made their home in Deloit. Kathryn drove truck alongside her husband, traveling two-thirds of the Western United States.
Kathryn was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Deloit. She was very active in the community, where she was working on the upcoming Sesquicentennial. Kathryn enjoyed yard work, flowers, animals, especially dogs, birds and fish. She also enjoyed collecting, Beanie Babies, salt and pepper shakers, Nutcrackers, Budweiser steins, thimbles, Elvis Plates and Terry Redlin collectables.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her father in 1971.
Survivors include her husband, Jim of Deloit; two sons, John Powell and his wife, Charlott, of Deloit; Jason Powell and his wife, Tammy, of Denison; one daughter, Tammy Sharp of Ogden, Utah; her mother, Lois Wegner of Manning; nine grandchildren; two sisters: Donna Venteicher and her husband, James, of Manning; Janice Johnson and her husband, Russell, of Mitchell, South Dakota; other relatives and friends.
