Karen Wiebers

Funeral services for Karen Wiebers were held Friday, April 28, 2000, at the United Church of Westside, Westside, Iowa. Pastor Virginia Stiles officiated the service. Interment was held at the Westside Cemetery, Westside, Iowa, with John Faust, Coby Carstens, Kara Carstens, Tim Silence, Dean Staack, Rob Butler, Larry Von Tersch, and Chris Hodges as casketbearers.

Karen Kay, daughter of Harry and Blondina (Grimm) Carstens, was born April 5, 1938, in Manning, Iowa. She attended school in Manning, graduating with the Manning High School Class of 1956. She then attended American Institute of Business in Des Moines, and subsequently worked as an administrative assistant in Des Moines.

On September 3, 1961, Karen was united in marriage with Robert Wiebers at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Two sons were born to this union. For their first year of marriage, Karen and Bob lived in Brookings, South Dakota while Bob finished classes at South Dakota State University. They then lived in Waterloo for a short time before moving to Downers Grove, Illinois. In 1975, she moved to Hudson, where Karen worked at the Hudson Elementary School. In 1986, they moved to Kansas City and from 1990 to 1992, lived in Council Bluffs. They then moved to Parkville, Missouri.

Karen enjoyed crafts, cross-stitch, baking and shopping. For Karen, caring for her family and grandchildren was considered a great honor.

On Tuesday, April 25, 2000, Karen died at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, Missouri, following a two and a half-year battle with cancer. She was 62 years and 20 days of age.

Karen is preceded in death by her father.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Wiebers, of Parkville, Missouri; two sons: Greg Wiebers and his wife, Rhonda, of Mesa, Arizona; Ryan Wiebers and his wife, Sue, of Hudson; four grandchildren: Lewis and Kendra Wiebers and Breana and Shelby Wiebers; mother, Blondina Carstens, of Manning; two brothers: Lenny Carstens and his wife, Sheryl, of Council Bluffs and Kenard Carstens and his wife, Vicki, of Harlan; parents-in-law, Leroy and Margaret Wiebers of Westside; sister-in-law, Kay Wiebers, of Westside; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and great friends.
