JULIUS MUSFELDT

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church here for Julius Musfeldt, 88, of Manning, who died August 9, 1973, at the Manning Plaza nursing home.

Pastor Edward F. Heinicke officiated. Pallbearers were Herman Musfeldt, Harry Nulle, Harry Musfeldt, Henry Musfeldt, Melvin Musfeldt, and Bill Opperman. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery, under direction of the Ohde Funeral Home.

Mr. Musfeldt was born July 22, 1885, at Aspinwall, a son of John Henry and Anna (Nottelmann) Musfeldt. On February 28, 1912, he married Emma Joens; the couple celebrated their 61st anniversary in February of this year. They farmed on the same farm southeast of Manning for 38 years before retiring and moving to Manning in 1950. Mr. Musfeldt had been in failing health for several months.

Surviving are his wife, two sons, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a brother.

One grandchild, five brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Note: In the various obituaries and other sources I have found many versions of Nuttleman (as it was in the original obit), such as Nottleman, Nottelman, Notterman, Nuttelman, and some with the double "n" at the end of the name, so the correct spelling needed to be determined for this Manning family.
Here is Anna Nottelmann's batismal record February 1852 from a distant Musfeldt relative in Germany, which would be the original and correct spelling before immigrating to the United States.
