Funeral Services for Julie Rasmussen, age 52, of Manilla,
will be 11 AM, Friday, April 18, 2014 at Manilla Memorial Hall in Manilla where
visitation will be on Thursday, April 17, 2014, from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Pastor
Angie Loomis will officiate. Recorded music will include: "Amazing Grace" by Lari White,
"See You Again" by Carrie Underwood and "I Can Only Imagine" by Mercy Me.
Casket Bearers are Jeff Karsten, Joe Karsten, Jay
Karsten, Jim Karsten, Jerry Rutherford and Dan Lorenzen. Honorary Casket Bearers
will be Jodi Hiatt, Lynne Gruhn, Mike Curnyn, Rob
& Mary Lueth, Jon & Deb Vennink, Roger & Chris Wiese, Raul &
Joni Salazar and Jason Lambertz. Interment will be in
the Nishnabotna Township Cemetery at Manilla.
Julie Rasmussen, age 52, of Manilla, passed away on Monday, April 14, 2014, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, following a one and a half year battle with bile duct cancer.
Julie Ann, daughter of Wilbur "Casey" and Marlys (Rutherford) Karsten, was born July 10, 1961, at Carroll, Iowa. She grew up in Manning and graduated from Manning High School in 1979.
On October 5, 1983, Julie was united in marriage with Michael P. Rasmussen at the Presbyterian Church in Manilla. Two children were born to this union. The family made their home in Manilla. Julie was employed in Manning at the Corner Café, Plastico, Nelson Manufacturing and Cliff's Place before taking a position with the U.S. Postal Service where she worked for the next 25 years, retiring in September of 2013.
Julie was upbeat and cherished the time spent with her children, always caring for everyone before herself. She always enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially gathering with everyone at Christmas, meeting up with Mike's cousins in Las Vegas, watching her nieces and nephews and their children grow up, going to Arizona to see family and the special trip to California in 2013 with her brothers and sisters.
Julie was preceded in death by her parents and two uncles Lanny Rutherford and Bob Sonderman.
Julie is survived by her husband Mike Rasmussen of Manilla; a daughter Kami Sue Rasmussen of Manilla: a son Nicholas Robert Rasmussen of Des Moines; Brothers and sisters: Jeff Karsten and wife Rita of Chandler, Arizona; Jim Karsten and wife JoAnn of Manning; Jan Lorenzen and husband Dan of Manning; Joni Summers and husband Doug of Gilbert, Arizona; Joe Karsten and wife Becky of Manning; and Jay Karsten of Mesa, Arizona; Aunts and Uncles: Ray and Kay Rutherford of Manilla; Maurine Rutherford of Estherville; Wayne and Donna Rutherford of Roca, Nebraska; Diane Sonderman of Earling; Tom and Carolyn Rutherford of Manilla and Gloria and Ron Lohrmann of Manilla.
The Johnson & Woodhouse Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
