Julia Marilyn, daughter of Gaylord and Arlene (Weitl) Stangl, was born January 10, 1968, at Carroll, Iowa. She grew up in the Dedham area and graduated from Kuemper High School in 1986. Following high school she attended La'James Beauty School in Fort Dodge.

On July 11, 1987, Julia was united in marriage with LeRoy Schlichte at St. Joseph's Church in Dedham. They were the parents of four children and lived north of Manning. Julia operated her own salon, Shear Perfection, in Templeton. She simply loved to do hair. Julia was a great mother and homemaker and was very proud of her family. She liked to bake, especially large batches of cookies. In her spare time she enjoyed crossword puzzles, Sudoku and cross stitch. In addition, she collected unicorns and Americana décor for her home.

Julia was diagnosed with an advanced stage of multiple sclerosis in 2014 that somewhat hampered her activities. However, she died as a result of a house fire on Saturday, February 28, 2015, at the age of 47 years, 1 month and 18 days.

Preceding her in death is her father Gaylord Stangl and sister Gail (Jim) Darby.

Julia is survived by her husband LeRoy Schlichte of Manning; children Elizabeth Schlichte of Cedar Rapids, Ryan (Brooke) Schlichte of Nevada, Sarah Schlichte of Manning and Steven Schlichte of Manning; mother Arlene Stangl of Dedham; siblings Sandie (Rod) Gonnerman of Lincoln, Nebraska, Faye (Dave) Seidl of Coon Rapids, Craig (Jill) Stangl of Coon Rapids, Royce Stangl of Dedham, Peggy (Martin) Pinto of Argentina, Linda (Joe) Byrum of Des Moines and Leann (Dan) McElroy of Des Moines; parents in law Dale and Therese Schlichte of Manning; brothers and sisters in law: Dan (Marcia) Schlichte of Ralston, Susan (Robert) Block of Ames, and Rebecca (Jason) Bahl of Urbandale; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends.
