Joyce Marie Rushenberg was born October 14, 1917, in Manning, Iowa, the much-loved child of Anton Joseph and Edith Ida (Hinrichs) Rushenberg. After growing up in Iowa, she moved to Aztec, New Mexico, to work with American Indians of the Navajo Tribe.

She later settled in Fort Worth in the Berkeley neighborhood where she lived and worked for 60 years.

In her spare time, she loved to visit our beautiful art museums and to go dancing with her friends at the "Guys and Dolls" ballroom in Lake Worth. She was also an avid bridge player.

Due to illness and accident, Joyce became a paraplegic and was home-bound for the past 25 years. In spite of her circumstances, she always maintained a joyful spirit, living with faith and hope. She turned her bed into an "office" and mail ordered varied and fun Christmas and birthday gifts for all of her loved ones. She also made generous donations to her beloved American Indians, and helped sustain animal sanctuaries all over the United States.

With the help of Lisa, her longtime and loyal caregiver, Joyce managed to attend many of the Fort Worth Cats baseball games via the Non-Emergency Transport System, always requesting her favorite driver. Joyce loved sports and being out with the crowd.

She also got to see our new Modern Art Museum with Lisa and Debra, a visiting minister of care from St. Andrew Catholic Church.

Survivors: her cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dean and Larry Weltha; loving and faithful caregiver, Lisa Teran and her husband, Alfonso, and their daughter, Patricia Teran; Jeanette Moyer; her precious adopted dachshund, "Sweetie;" and many cherished friends and eucharistic ministers to the homebound, who had sought through the years to bring the church home to Joyce.
