Joseph G. Raes, 85, formerly of 1216 26th St., Moline, Illinois, died Tuesday, March 24, 1998, at Genesis, East, Davenport.
Services are 9:30 a.m. Friday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline, and 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. Entombment is in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline.
Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with a rosary by Catholic Order of Foresters at 6 p.m. and a Christian wake service at 6:30. Memorials may be made to the church or American Heart Association.
Mr. Raes was born June 20, 1912, in Moline, to Jules and Marie (Cluyse) Raes. He married Eunice V. Junge October 31, 1936, in Moline.
He was employed by the Moline Post Office for 16 years as a letter carrier, retiring in 1978. He was owner of Raes Grocery, Moline, from 1945 to 1962. Prior to that, he worked 18 years at the former John Deere Plow Planter, Moline from 1927 to 1945.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 50-year member of Catholic Order of Foresters, Sacred Heart Court 1691 and member of National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 318, Moline. For eight years, he was a tax aide for American Association of Retired Persons AARP.
Survivors include his wife; sons and daughters-in-law, George and Twilah Raes, Welton, Iowa, and Robert and Janet Raes, West Linn, Oregon; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Alice Raes, Moline.
