Services Held For John Witt Last Sunday

Funeral services for John Witt, 78, of Arcadia, who died at 8:15 Friday morning March 23, 1945, in the Wyatt hospital at Manning, were held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church with Rev. John D. Stauss of Carnarvon officiating. Burial was in the Arcadia Cemetery under the direction of the Ohde Funeral Home of Manning. Pallbearers were Frank Bruggeman, Edward Hennings, G.W. Evers, C.J. Schrad, Amos Epsen, Will Jande.

The church services were preceded by short rites at 1:30 at the Witt home where the body rested until the rites, having been brought here from the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning at one o'clock Saturday afternoon.

Mr. Witt was born February 3, 1867, at Reinsbuettel, Holstein, Germany. On April 28, 1918, he was married to Mrs. Martha Preyt, who died in 1939.

Mr. Witt had been in ill health since last fall. His condition became serious January 21 when he was taken from his home to the Henry Preyt home west of town where he was cared for until he entered the hospital March 13. Prior to his last illness, he had lived alone in his home here, following the death of his wife.

Survivors include two step-sons, Henry Preyt of Arcadia and George Preyt of Pasadena, California, and one brother, August Witt of Red Oak, and two sisters, Mrs. Louie Bruggeman of Laurel, Nebraska, and Mrs. Jacob Lage of Manning. Mrs. Emil Wiese, another sister, of Manning, passed away Wednesday morning.
