Funeral rites for John D. Umland, 86, of Manning were held Monday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla.

The Rev, Ronald E. Meyer officiated; burial was in the Nishnabotna Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mr. Umland were Merlin Umland, Willus Umland, Jack Lorenzen, Alan Lorenzen, Karl Mahnke, and Kenneth Ewoldt.

Mr. Umland was born January 7, 1887, near Manilla. He farmed with his mother and on November 19, 1913, he was married to Emma Helen Schnoor. They farmed north of Manilla until 1954 when they retired and moved to Manning.

Mr. Umland died at Crawford County Memorial Hospital, Denison, October 5, 1973. Surviving are two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a son-in-law. His wife died June 22, 1965. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Madonna; four brothers and three sisters.
