Death Of John Stephany.
Saturday night at the home of his son S.F. Stephany, Earling, Iowa, occurred the death of
John Stephany after a lingering illness of several months.
Mr. Stephany was born in Germany, June 16th 1845, came with his parents to this country when a boy three years of age and after a time at Fond du Lac, Wisconsin became one of the early settlers of Shelby County 22 years ago. The deceased was united in marriage to Miss Agnes Goeser in 1865 to which union twelve children were born.
He was a kind husband, a considerate father and a highly respected citizen. While of a reserved disposition his life may yet be considered an active one. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, four sons and six daughters, Peter Stephany, Manning; S.F. Stephany and Joseph Stephany of Earling; Charles Stephany of Neola; Mrs. Abbey Bennett of Panama; Kathryn Stephany of Manning; Mrs. Pauline Castor of Audubon; Rosa and Dora Stephany of Neola; and Sister Mary Benedicta of Chicago, all of whom were present at the funeral.
The funeral was held from St. Joseph Church Monday morning, interment being in St. Joseph Cemetery at Earling, Iowa, which was formerly their home.
